Day 1
Christchurch – Moeraki Boulders (174 miles)
Pick up your motorhome from THL's Christchurch branch, before embarking on the 3.5-hour journey to the Moeraki Boulders.
Day 2
Moeraki Boulders – Riversdale (155 miles)
Leave Moeraki Boulders and drive three hours along the rolling green hills to Riversdale. We’d recommend finishing your journey at the Penguin Rescue Centre and Katiki Point Lighthouse. During the day, you might spot seals on the beach, whilst the penguins are active at dusk.
Day 3
Riversdale – Milford Sound (140 miles)
Today you will drive to Milford Sound, a beautiful destination. There are quite a few scenic stops you can make on the way, and we recommend Mirror Lakes, Monkey Creek, and Pops View in particular.
Day 4
Milford Sound
Stay where you are today and take the time to enjoy stunning Milford Sound. Why not book a cruise to see the amazing waterfalls, seals, and maybe even Fiordland penguins. The Key Summit Track is also a popular pastime – though challenging, the views you’re rewarded with are impeccable.
Day 5
Milford Sound – Lake Wakatipu (168 miles)
In the morning, why not add in another quick hike – we love Tutoko Suspension Bridge. It’s then a 3.5 hour drive to your next stop. This gorgeous area also has lovely trails, as well as sunset views.
Day 6
Lake Wakatipu – Queenstown (12 miles)
It’s a short drive to Queenstown today, leaving plenty of time to explore this fun city. We recommend wandering through the harbour, enjoying a bit of shopping and great food, or perhaps a gondola ride to see the city from above.
Day 7
Queenstown – Lake Ohau (62 miles)
It’s a twisty journey today, with a stop as Lindis alpine pass summit if you need to stretch your legs. Soon you’ll arrive in Lake Ohau, a beautiful and quiet area.
Day 8
Lake Ohau – Mount Cook National Park (62 miles)
Start the day off right with a short hike along Lake Ohau. Then, it’s onwards to Mount Cook National Park. Make sure you leave time to make multiple photo stops of the glacier lakes and ice capped peaks. Once you’re settled, we recommend trying out the popular Hooker Valley track – there are swinging bridges and wooden paths along the way.
Day 9
Mount Cook National Park – Geraldine (124 miles)
In the morning, why not stop at Kea Point lookout for phenomenal views of the park. On your way to Geraldine, we also like to make a stop at Lake Tekapo to wander around the charming town.
Day 10
Geraldine – Christchurch (81 miles)
Today is the end of your trip. Head back to Christchurch to drop off your motorhome, leaving enough time for your onwards flight.
